BAS Annual General Meeting 2008

The Annual General Meeting of BAS members 2008 took place on the 4th of December. We were kindly hosted by HM’s Ambassador Dr Rick Todd in his Warsaw Residence. More than sixty members of our community joined us for this evening, together with distinguished guests.

Order of the meeting was as follows:

18.00 – Official Welcome by the Ambassador
18.10 – 18.30 – Management Board's review of past activities
18.35 - 18.45 – BC and BAS framework for cooperation by Tony O'Brien, BC Director Poland
18.50 – 19.30 – Economic outlook for Poland during global crisis by Dr Wiesław Rozłucki
19.30 – 21.00 – Xmas Party

After a cordial welcome from our host, HMA Ric Todd, the Management Board presented the annual review of BAS activities in 2008. Amongst the significant issues were the amendments of our statutes and legal issues related to formal registration of BAS by the National Registry Court. Our President, Sylwester Janik gave an overview of new organizational structure for BAS Management Board. Particular fields of activity were presented by responsible board members. Ola Walentynowicz talked about our relations with strategic partners, British Council and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Karol Lasocki, membership officer elaborated on communication platforms for our community, monthly open meetings and congresses at which we promoted our association. Krzysztof Piskorski continued with short description of his field of activity, reporting on events carried out in 2008, including both professional trainings and sport activities. He also encouraged members to take advantage of the new services offered on our community website. Krystyna Pęczek outlined future developments for BAS, upcoming PPP conference and mentoring project. <The full presentation BAS Review 2008 is available HERE>.

Our distinguished member, BC director for Poland, Mr Tony O’Brien talked about BC programs and upcoming projects, as well as the new framework for future cooperation with BAS.

We continued this special evening with a special presentation by our honorary guest Dr Wieslaw Rozlucki, the father of Polish capital market, co-founder of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, and its President 1991-2006. Our honorary guest presented the principles of stock-markets in a nut-shell and shared his views on the current global crisis and the outlook for future economic developments.

In the informal part of the AGM we played a presents give-away game, with the gifts members were asked to bring: until the last moment no-one was quite sure that what they were holding is what they will be getting, as the presents kept changing hands and directions. We also shared mulled wine and some Christmas-style snacks, and enjoyed the conversations with fellow BAS members.

We hope everyone enjoyed the evening and that high attendance becomes a good indicator for members’ involvement in the year to come.
